A diretora-geral do FMI, Christine Lagarde, confirmou ontem, 1º, Gita Gopinath no cargo. Ela assume como conselheira Econômica e Diretora do Departamento de Pesquisa do FMI em substituição a Maurice Obstfeld, que anunciou que irá se aposentar no final do ano.
Gita Gopinath é professora de Estudos Internacionais e Economia da Universidade de Harvard, co-editora da American Economic Review e co-diretora do Programa Internacional de Finanças e Macroeconomia do National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
A economista é autora de 40 artigos científicos sobre taxas de câmbio, comércio e investimento, crises financeiras internacionais, política monetária, dívida e crises de mercados emergentes.
De origem indiana, Gita Gopinath nasceu cidadã americana e cidadã ultramarina da Índia.
Ela é Ph.D. em economia pela Universidade de Princeton além de ter um B.A. pela Universidade de Delhi e M.A. pelas instituições Delhi School of Economics e University of Washington.
