Representante das nações indígenas para o Senado em 2018.

Em quase 130 anos de história republicana, diversos políticos ocuparam lugar no parlamento brasileiro. No entanto, apenas um deles era representante da etnia indígena: Mário Juruna.

O cacique xavante foi o único índio a ser eleito para o Congresso Nacional, assumindo o mandato de deputado federal pelo Partido Democrático Trabalhista (PDT) do Rio, entre os anos de 1983 e 1987.

Em 2018, um segundo representante das nações indígenas poderá se eleger para uma cadeira no Senado.

Trata-se de Telma Marques Taurepang – Secretária do Movimento de Mulheres Indígenas de Roraima, que tem seu novo fortalecido em todos os Estados pelas representações de aldeias e movimentos sociais.

O nome de Taurepang já tem aparecido bem nas tendências eleitorais do Estado e tem mobilizado diversos setores das comunidades sob discurso de renovação da política de Roraima.

Telma é filiada ao Partido Comunista Brasileiro, originária da comunidade indígena Mangueira.

Aos 41 anos, casada, mãe de três filhos, Telma desde a infância já acompanhava a luta dos familiares e, principalmente, a luta do seu povo, Taurenpag e outros povos do estado de Roraima.

Convidada a participar de quase todos os eventos promovidos pelas nações indígenas, de Norte a Sul do país, Telma Marques Taurepang  fez com que, primeira vez,  uma mulher Taurepang assumisse uma organização indígena.

Em 2010 foi eleita com 3.540 votos para assumir a Secretaria de Mulheres Indígenas, um departamento dentro de uma organização de renome no estado de Roraima, respeitada internacionalmente pela atuação em defesa dos direitos dos povos originários no estado, com a conquista da demarcação da Terra Indígena Raposa Serra do Sol.

Em conversa com o blogueiro, Telma  demonstra segura visão do que pretende fazer, caso seja eleita, no Congresso Nacional.

“Diante da conjuntura política e social em que nós povos indígenas passamos hoje, de ameaça aos nossos direitos indígenas, perseguição e pressão política por parte dos poderes que compõe o nosso Estado brasileiro, legislativo, executivo e judiciário questão essa que, infelizmente, vem causando instabilidade, insegurança aos povos indígenas de todo o Brasil, acredito que o importante, assim como em todas as lutas, é continuar com o fortalecimento, união, resistência, da mesma forma como nesses 514 anos de conquista.”, defende a líder indígena.

Telma lembra que a organização social das comunidades indígenas, o ingresso de indígenas no ensino superior, formação de professores e agentes indígenas de saúde, projetos de sustentabilidade, ações de vigilância e monitoramento das terras indígenas e articulações regionais, nacionais e internacionais,  são alternativas desenvolvidas nas comunidades e juntos com os povos, que a partir de um processo de conquista de direitos indígenas, “nós fomos enfrentando e com esforço conquistamos resultados positivos, resultados das nossas lutas. “

Para ela, o papel da mulher indígena é fundamental no processo de avanços.

“Enquanto representante das mulheres indígenas, como defensora da causa indígena, não só da causa das mulheres, mas defensora de um direito coletivo, dos povos indígenas reforço que, o papel da mulher em todo processo de luta, seja indígena ou não, o importante é garantir essa participação de gênero nas instancias sociais, porque também somos frutos de uma história de luta e resistência, principalmente, pela conquista de participação democrática e que hoje, também faz parte do protagonismo social no Brasil.

Telma  entende que “a visibilidade das mulheres indígenas aparece cada vez mais nas discussões de terra, saúde, educação, política e sustentabilidade”, ao mesmo tempo em que defende, para a saúde, “que as práticas tradicionais se integrem com a medicina ocidental, de forma complementar”

Além do cargo de chefia que ocupa na Secretária do Movimento de Mulheres Indígenas de Roraima, Taurepang  faz  parte do conselho de mulheres da COICA (Coordinadora de la Organizaciones Indígenas de la Cuenca Amazónica); membro do Conselho Consultivo  da  Secretaria de Mulheres Indígenas da América Latina; integrante do Comitê Indígena de Mudanças Climáticas — CIMC, além de participar das mais importantes conferências fora do país.

Quando lhe é perguntado sobre como viver entre duas culturas, Telma responde:  — “É achar meios para uma sintonia sem atrito. É viver e manter nossos costumes, desde nossos antepassados, pois a cultura civilizada vive em mutação constante.”

Na visão da líder feminina, um dos maiores desafios das comunidades indígenas, no momento, é ter liberdade para eleger  representantes no que tange aos órgãos que defendem os povos indígenas, em todas suas amplitudes. Discutir terras indígenas, acabar  com os conflitos agrários; titulação de terras aos indígenas que delas vivem.

– “Assim será dado o primeiro passo para acabar com os assassinatos por demanda de terras”.
