Mãe de Yemonja.

A ONU Mulheres Brasil manifesta pesar pelo falecimento de Mãe Beata de Yemonjá, Beatriz Moreira Costa, aos 86 anos, ocorrido neste sábado (27/5). Estende condolências a familiares, amigas e amigos, movimentos de mulheres negras e das comunidades de terreiro de todo o Brasil.

Por toda a sua vida, Mãe Beata se deparou com o racismo, o sexismo e a intolerância religiosa, respondendo com a sua capacidade de enfrentamento e de conexão com a ancestralidade, para fortalecimento da identidade e consciência negra em projetos coletivos e comunitários.

Mãe Beata de Yemonjá foi uma das sacerdotisas mais engajadas a liderar a organização política das comunidades de terreiro, entre elas a Renafro – Rede Nacional de Religiões Afro-brasileiras Saúde. Colaborou para a preservação do candomblé ao seguir o seu destino como ialorixá e fundadora de um dos terreiros mais tradicionais do Rio de Janeiro: Ilê Omi Oju Aro, em Nova Iguaçu.

Por sua peculiar e sólida trajetória, Mãe Beata de Yemonjá deixa um legado a ser valorizado por todas as brasileiras e brasileiros, especialmente a população negra, o qual ilumina os propósitos a serem seguidos pelo País no âmbito da Década Internacional de Afrodescendentes sob o lema “Pessoas afrodescendentes: reconhecimento, justiça e desenvolvimento”.
