Primeira trans a estampar a capa de uma revista em 132 anos.

Atriz, que é uma mulher transgênero, está na capa da edição sul-africana da ‘Cosmopolitan’, fundada em 1886. Laverne, que estourou ao viver a personagem Sophia na série Orange is the New Black, entrou para a história dos direitos LGBTs – e da badalada revista Cosmopolitan – ao se tornar a primeira mulher transgênero a estampar a capa da publicação.

“Estou muito honrada e orgulhosa de estampar a capa”, comemorou a atriz, que está na edição sul-africana da publicação. “Nesta edição exclusiva da Cosmnpopolitan da África do Sul, @lavernecox aparece como a primeira estrela abertamente trans da história. Não sou uma mulher? Sim, você é e nós também somos”, dizia post feito na página da publicação na web.

Vale lembrar que a Cosmopolitan foi fundada em 1886, ou seja, Laverne quebrou um jejum de nada menos que 132 anos. Na capa, que traz a bandeira gay colorindo o nome da publicação, Laverne ainda usou um look revelador com a chamada “diga sim ao amor”.

Em 2014, Laverne já havia quebrado mais uma barreira: ela se tornou a primeira trans na capa da retomadíssima revista Time.
