Foi essa colombiana quem criou algumas das rotas de tráfico que viriam a ser usadas depois por Pablo Escobar. Griselda foi pioneira em traficar cocaína da Colômbia para os Estados Unidos, por meio de Miami, nos anos 70 e 80.

A vida da traficante chega as telas com o filme: A Madrinha da Cocaína(Cocaine Godmother), que estreou no canal americano Lifetime.

Catherine Zeta-Jones é quem interpreta a rainha das drogas. A escolha de uma mulher não latina para o papel gerou algumas críticas. Ao justificar sua escolha, Zeta-Jones disse que sua escalação não foi uma mera casualidade. Em entrevista à revista americana Entertainment Weekly, a atriz contou que conheceu a história de Griselda Blanco em 2006, após ver o documentário Cocaine Cowboys (“Cowboys da Cocaína”), que trata do tráfico de drogas em Miami.

Griselda popularizou esse termo “cowboy da cocaína” naquele período, no qual Miami vivia uma batalha das drogas em suas ruas.

Zeta-Jones disse que queria levar essa história para as telas – oportunidade que apareceu por meio do canal Lifetime. Segundo ela, esse papel é uma de suas “experiências mais incríveis” como atriz.

“Sou uma atriz galesa que não se parece com o que esperam de alguém do País de Gales”, declarou.

“Este é o terceiro papel hispânico que faço. Tive um de protagonista em Zorro, para o qual fiz um teste e disputei com seis hispânicas. Não sei mais o que dizer. E eu era completamente desconhecida naquela época.”

Quem era Griselda Branco

A colombiana, que nasceu em Cartagena em 1943 e três anos depois se mudou para Medellín, entrou para o mundo do crime ainda na infância, roubando carteiras. Aos 11 anos, sequestrou um garoto – é acusada de tê-lo matado após não receber o resgate. Aos 14, fugiu de casa e começou a se prostituir.

Nessa época, conheceu o primeiro marido, um criminoso que falsificava passaportes e ganhava dinheiro com o tráfico de pessoas, entre outras coisas. Antes de morrer, ele deixou a mulher em contato com o mundo do crime de Nova York.

Foi Griselda quem idealizou as primeiras rotas de tráfico via Miami, que depois seriam as vias mais usadas pelos cartéis de droga colombianos.

Ela tinha uma loja de roupas íntimas, usada como disfarce. Inventou, por exemplo, uma lingerie com bolsos escondidos para transportar drogas.

Com seu segundo marido, ela viu os negócios expandirem. Nessa época nasceu seu quarto filho, a quem batizou de Michael Corleone por causa do filme O Poderoso Chefão.

Foi nessa época que conquistou sua reputação de mulher implacável, disposta a ordenar assassinatos.

Estima-se que ela enviava mensalmente aos Estados Unidos mais de uma tonelada de cocaína por mar e terra, o que a tornou uma das mulheres mais ricas da época.

Ela se casou três vezes e foi acusada de mandar matar o segundo marido e de assassinar ela mesma o terceiro, após descobrir que ele a estava roubando. Ganhou então o apelido de viúva negra.

Queda

A violência com que atuava no crime chamou a atenção das autoridades e, em 1985, ela foi presa na Califórnia. A colombiana, suspeita de mandar matar dezenas de pessoas, foi condenada a mais de 50 anos por narcotráfico e três assassinatos, mas ficou presa por 20.

Em 2004, ela foi deportada para a Colômbia, onde voltou a viver sem chamar muita atenção.

Em 2012, ao sair de um açougue em Medellín, foi morta.

“É uma surpresa que não tenha sido assassinada antes, pois fez muitos inimigos”, disse à época Nelson Andreu, ex-detetive do departamento de homicídios de Miami, ao jornal Miami Herald. “Quando se mata tanta gente, como ela fez, é questão de tempo até que alguém te encontre e acerte as contas.”
