Morre Naomi Fraley

Inspiração para pôster feminista símbolo da 2ª Guerra.

Naomi Parker Fraley, a inspiração para o icônico símbolo feminista Rosie the Riveter, criado na Segunda Guerra Mundial, morreu aos 96 anos. Ela nasceu em Tulsa, Oklahoma, em 26 de agosto de 1921 e morreu em Longview, Washington, de acordo com o The New York Times.

Naomi trabalhava na Estação Naval e, em 1942, ela posou para uma fotografia vestindo uma bandana vermelha de bolinhas rosas enquanto trabalhava na fabricação de armas. A foto foi rapidamente publicada em diversos jornais e revistas do mundo inteiro, até que chamou a atenção do artista J. Howard Miller, que se inspirou na imagem para criar a personagem Rosie the Riveter.

A personagem, criada em 1943, aparece usando uma bandana igual à de Naomi e virou um símbolo das Forças Armadas dos Estados Unidos na época. Entretanto, Naomi não foi identificada como a musa inspiradora de Rosie porque outra mulher, chamada Geraldine Hoff Doyle, que trabalhava em uma fábrica de Michigan, foi rotulada como a “Rosie the Riveter da vida real”.

Foi apenas 30 anos depois que Naomi descobriu que ela era a inspiração para o famoso pôster. “Eu não conseguia acreditar que era eu na foto, mas havia o nome de outra pessoa na legenda: Geraldine. Eu fiquei impressionada”, disse ela à People em setembro de 2016.
