O livro Memórias de Carlota Joaquina: a amante do poder do historiador Marsílio Cassotti, com base em documentos históricos e testemunhos de quem conviveu diretamente com a “princesa rebelde”, apresenta uma Carlota que, em primeira pessoa, expõe as intrigas políticas da família, a fuga dos Bragança para terras brasileiras, o casamento aos dez anos de idade com Dom João VI e a relação com o mulherengo Dom Pedro.
Além disso, a obra trata de sua misteriosa lealdade a Portugal durante a traiçoeira Guerra das Laranjas e dos rumores sobre os seus amantes. As intenções de ser coroada rainha em Buenos Aires e a sua recusa em jurar a Constituição liberal também são destaques no livro.
Diante das ameaças da Revolução Francesa, Carlota buscou o protagonismo nos assuntos públicos, desagradando aqueles que não aceitavam a participação feminina nos negócios. O foco do historiador Marsilio Cassotti é, justamente, demonstrar a coragem e a valentia desta mulher, que ansiava o poder direto sobre as ações políticas, característica não muito bem vista às mulheres da época.
SOBRE O AUTOR
Marsilio Cassotti estudou Ciências Políticas com especialização em Relações Internacionais na Universidade Católica de Buenos Aires, e Língua Francesa no Instituto Católico de Paris. Há mais de vinte anos estuda o empoderamento feminino na História. No Brasil, publicou A biografia íntima de Leopoldina, pela Editora Planeta, já em terceira edição.
