Gisela Mac Laren é uma mulher de fibra. Há treze anos, assumiu a presidência do estaleiro Mac Laren, encarando o desafio de comandar cerca de três mil homens. Corajosa, não só encarou como recuperou a empresa que, na época, estava à beira de uma concordata. Para superar a crise, conduziu a empresa da família com a mesma ousadia do pai e do avô, mas sem se esquecer da responsabilidade social.

Sua trajetória na empresa começou cedo. Antes de assumir o cargo de comando do estaleiro, fundado em 1938 pelo avô, Arthur Frederico Mac Laren, teve que transpor muitos obstáculos, entre eles o preconceito de circular num ambiente dominado por homens. Aos 15 anos, vencendo a resistência do pai, William Mac Laren, Gisela assumiu o cargo de escriturária no estaleiro da família, numa época em que as mulheres só eram contratadas para ocupar cargos de telefonistas ou secretárias. No início, conta que viveu certa rejeição por ser filha do dono da empresa e mais ainda por ser mulher. “Tive de me impor e mostrar a cada instante que tinha competência”, recorda.

Para isso, já com o objetivo de um dia comandar o negócio da família, a menina, que sonhou dominar os palcos da música brasileira, abandonou o curso de música e partiu rumo aos Estados Unidos para estudar economia na New University, na Flórida. Assim, em 1989, quando o estaleiro Mac Laren estava prestes a pedir concordata, ela retornou ao Brasil para ajudar o pai a recuperar o negócio da família. A missão, segundo Gisela, não foi fácil, foram dez anos de luta e de desconfiança. Além de ter que provar a todo instante sua capacidade e se firmar como sua sucessora do estaleiro, também teve que driblar a desconfiança. “Ninguém do setor acreditava que eu poderia recuperar o estaleiro. Eu nem era recebida na Petrobrás”, recorda.

Vencidas as barreiras do preconceito e da desconfiança, em 2000, Gisela assumiu a presidência do Mac Laren. Ela recorda que a herança da família teve que ser conquistada à base de muita inteligência, competência e feminilidade. Hoje, aos 42 anos, é a única mulher a comandar um estaleiro no mundo. Sob seu comando, o estaleiro está entre os cotados para atender a parte da encomenda de 40 navios-sonda e plataformas semi-submersíveis que a Petrobrás pretende construir para a exploração dos campos da camada pré-sal, a maior promessa de novas reservas de petróleo no mundo. Ela também se prepara para iniciar as obras de um dos três primeiros diques secos do país, um empreendimento de 160 milhões de reais. “Meu maior desafio, hoje, é finalizar esse dique. Já superei as barreiras do preconceito e da desconfiança. Pelo fato de sermos mulheres, temos características que nos dão vantagem no mundo dos negócios, como o perfeccionismo e o capricho”, afirma.

As metas não são poucas na vida dessa empresária, que também desenvolve no estaleiro vários programas sociais voltados para a capacitação de mão-de-obra, como o “Futuro Certo”, que visa a contratar jovens de abrigos e orfanatos, o “Meu Potencial”, que prevê a contratação de portadores de deficiência física e Síndrome de Down e o “Mulher Naval,” que visa à maior inserção de mulheres no setor. Ainda neste sentido, visando a ampliação da capacitação de mulheres na indústria naval, ainda dominada pelos homens, ela também desenvolve, em parceria com a Secretaria de Administração Penitenciária do Rio de Janeiro, cursos para utilização de mão-de-obra de mulheres sentenciadas em regime aberto e semi-aberto. Em julho, 22 detentas concluíram o curso. E, segundo a presidente, a meta do estaleiro é empregar todas as concluintes do curso. “A mulher tem uma firmeza manual muito maior do que a do homem. Muitos bebem e, por isso, têm dificuldade de concentração no trabalho”, analisa.

Gisela, como a maioria das mulheres, também tem a difícil tarefa de conciliar vários papéis. Mãe de dois filhos e divorciada, usa o equilíbrio para conciliar os papéis de mãe, mulher e empresária. “Tem que ter equilíbrio. Quando estamos no trabalho, temos que nos dedicar inteiramente a ele e quando estamos com a família, devemos curtí-la”, ensina.
